What to do before we arrive, what to expect on service day, and how to care for your newly refinished surface.

Before We Arrive

A little preparation helps the appointment go smoothly and gives your new finish the cleanest possible start.

Tidy up and clear the work area. A clear room means less dust settling onto the fresh coating. No deep cleaning needed.
Remove personal items from the tub, shower and counters: curtains, toiletries, mirrors, pictures and anything else loose.
Faucets, handles, overflow plates and other fixtures may need to be loosened or removed. Bathroom Surface Solutions technicians are not licensed plumbers, so you may need a plumber to remove and reinstall plumbing fixtures. If a fixture can't be removed, we mask it before spraying.
Fix any leaky faucets or fixtures beforehand, or tell us about them when we arrive.
Refinishing coatings contain solvents, so expect a paint odor during application. Our technicians ventilate the work area, and an open window helps it clear faster.

Our technician handles the protection, prep and spraying, typically in a single day.

We mask and protect the surrounding walls, floors and fixtures before any coating is applied.
Old caulk and sealant are removed so the new finish bonds cleanly.
Coatings are sprayed at a thin viscosity, so pre-existing unevenness, gaps or pinholes in grout won't be hidden by the new finish. Grout should be in good condition before we arrive for the best-looking result.
Please have someone available at the end of the appointment to walk through and review the finished work with the technician.

The coating needs a short curing window, and then we come back to finish the details.

Don't use the fixture until the coating has cured, typically 12 to 24 hours before first use, depending on room temperature and humidity.
Once the coating has cured, a Bathroom Surface Solutions technician returns to re-caulk all edges, seams and drains. This standard re-caulk visit is included, so you don't need to caulk anything yourself.
We remove the masking we placed around the refinished unit.
Please plan to handle routine post-project cleaning of the rooms we worked in, since some sanding dust can settle during the process.

A refinished surface is easy to live with: a few simple habits keep it glossy for years.

Clean regularly with mild, non-abrasive cleaners (Lysol Basin Tub & Tile, Mr. Clean and similar products work well) to prevent soap scum buildup.
Wiping the surface down with a towel after each use keeps it looking its best; no need to dry it fully.
Don't let a leaky faucet go unrepaired: a constant drip can wear the finish over time.
Avoid abrasive pads and powders, ammonia or bleach cleaners, and bathmats with suction cups.
An occasional urethane polish (two or three times a year) helps the surface hold its gloss, just skip the floor of the tub where you stand.
